Underground Residential Distribution (URD) Design and Build Projects

Overview: In 2013 fiscal year (October 2012 – September 2013), ZE Power Engineering took on 21 URD design and build projects totaling over $1.2 million in value. The scope of work for each development includes electrical and civil design, procurement and delivery of civil materials to the assigned civil contractor, procurement and installation of electrical materials, energization, and final turnover to BC Hydro. The URD design team also provides the client with BC Hydro-approved construction drawings, necessary permits from municipalities and utilities, and as-built drawings upon project construction completion. In addition, some projects have required street light design and feeder infrastructure.

Underground residential distribution (URD) design solutions are offered to support developers in the design and construction of underground residential developments. As a Certified Service Provider under BC Hydro’s Customer Build Program, ZE Power Engineering provides complete end-to-end electrical and civil design, procurement, coordination of installation and construction, and necessary documentation from design to energization. The program enables developers to select a BC Hydro-approved professional electrical engineering firm to design and build underground electrical infrastructure, ensuring that new residential developments are connected to BC Hydro’s power grid in accordance with its standards.

Supported by a team with diverse technical backgrounds and experience in power systems, utility standards, design policies, and practices, ZE Power Engineering is committed to providing timely and sustainable URD design solutions including delivery of BC Hydro approved construction drawings and the necessary permits as well as full construction and management services.
